My work connects clay with storytelling, textiles and plants. I explore how everyday objects become meaningful to us. Each piece brings together one-of-a-kind collage and functional design.
Doora ceramics are functional ceramics that tell stories and are infused with meaning by layering multiple materials - vintage laces, embroidery, silks, leaves, flowers, even special stones - on clay.
I often work with customers directly. I will use their heirloom textiles (wedding dresses, grandmother's crochet, christening gowns etc.), meaningful plants (wedding bouquets, anniversary flowers, foliage from the places where something meaningful happened), seashells from favorite vacations ... - textures that are meaningful to them and remind them of someone or something special - and create dishes and decorations for them that will bring joy and memories into their everyday life.
As an immigrant, connecting the past with the present and making ceramics that carry histories into the future is very important to me.
All of my work is food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe.
My work was shortlisted for the 2022 Virginia Museum Of Contemporary Art Boardwalk Art Show award.
